The BWA meet with Gareth Davies MP to discuss proposed warehouse tax

The BWA’s Brian Davis and Graham Sheen met with Gareth Davies MP today (12th October 2026) to discuss Andy Burnham's proposed warehouse tax and its potential impact on members across the excise warehousing sector.

The BWA highlighted concerns about the potential impact on warehouse keepers, particularly in the alcohol and spirits sector. Additional costs could have significant knock-on effects throughout the supply chain, ultimately affecting consumers, pubs, restaurants, and other businesses.

Although recent reports suggest the proposed warehouse tax may have been ruled out, formal confirmation is still awaited, with further clarity potentially expected in the Government’s budget on 28th October.

The BWA felt it was important to reinforce the potential impact such a tax could have on its members and the wider excise industry.

The meeting provided an important opportunity for the BWA to represent members’ interests directly to Parliament. Gareth Davies MP also indicated that he would be keen to continue the conversation and develop a greater understanding of the industry, which the BWA welcomes.

We look forward to further discussions and will keep members updated as more information becomes available.
