Trader Support Service (TSS) practice environment

An update on opportunities to practise supplementary declarations before using them in the live environment.

The following has been shared by HMRC.

How to practise a Supplementary Declaration

Before you can practise completing a Supplementary Declaration, you first need to create a declaration that will trigger one.

The quickest way is to create a standalone Simplified Declaration with non-controlled goods in the Practice Environment.

When you create the Simplified Declaration, enter an arrival time in the past. Once you submit, a Supplementary Declaration will be automatically created and populated for you to complete and submit.

Follow these steps:

  • For Route, select “Great Britain to Northern Ireland”
  • For Information you want to submit, select “Customs details only”
  • For Type of customs details, select “Simplified – for controlled or non-controlled goods”
  • For Pre-lodged or arrived, select “Arrived”
  • For When the goods arrived, enter a time in the past
  • For Controlled goods?, select “No, this consignment doesn’t contain controlled goods”
  • Complete and submit

The new Trader Support Service – key information

The government is committed to helping businesses move goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland. To improve our service, we are launching a new Trader Support Service. From 20 October, all new movements must start on the new platform

  • The service is open to early adopters. The new TSS platform has been live since July, where early adopters successfully submit live declarations. Want to be an early adopter? You can sign up for the Live Pilot.
  • A Practice Environment helps users build familiarity. For those who prefer to practise before submitting live declarations, a Practice Environment provides the opportunity to do so. You can join the Practice Environment.
  • New functionality. Feedback from traders and Live Pilot usage is actively reviewed and high demand features are implemented, such as multiple goods uploads, which is now possible via a CSV file. The platform will continue to improve after 20 October, with new features added in response to your feedback.
  • Dedicated support is on hand. Call the new Trader Support Service Contact Centre on 0800 870 8173, between 8 am and 5:30pm, 7 days a week. It can support you with personalised trader guidance and step-by-step declaration assistance.
