Traffic Commissioners Update: The Walkaround Check

A reminder to commercial vehicle drivers, particularly those operating Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and Public Service Vehicles (PSVs), that performing a walkaround check is not optional.

It’s a legal obligation and a critical safety procedure that must always be conducted before a vehicle enters public roads.

Key purpose of this:

  • Ensures vehicles are safe, roadworthy, and fit for purpose, helping prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Helps avoid roadside prohibitions that could be issued by the DVSA or police.
  • Minimises vehicle downtime, protects the public, and demonstrates compliance with operator undertakings mandated by Traffic Commissioners.

All involved in commercial transport, drivers, operators, and transport managers, who are responsible for ensuring the safety and legal compliance of their vehicles should view this update.
