The former bank (built in 1852), once a central part of Forres life, had stood closed and empty for years — an all-too-familiar symbol of current economic challenges and changes to the way we do our banking. But today, thanks to the combined efforts of Aceo and the support of Mr Ross, the doors of the Old Bank have reopened, welcoming customers into a vibrant whisky shop in the heart of the community.
“We’re very grateful for the backing Douglas Ross gave us with securing the Old Bank for our new whisky shop,” said Edward Odim, Managing Director of Aceo. “His support helped us breathe new life into a space that had sat dormant for far too long.”
The Murray McDavid Whisky Shop at The Old Bank now showcases an exciting range of independently bottled whiskies from distilleries across Scotland, especially Speyside distilleries. The shop welcomes both locals and international visitors into a beautifully restored setting steeped in character and history.
Located in the heart of Forres, the building’s rebirth reflects Aceo’s commitment to supporting local regeneration and preserving the rich whisky heritage of Speyside. “We believe this is just the beginning,” said Odim. “We hope our venture will act as a catalyst, inspiring other businesses to invest in the town and help shape an even brighter future for Forres.”
The visit from Mr Ross marks a proud moment for Aceo and a promising new chapter for one of Forres’ landmark buildings.
