The visit gave employees the opportunity to pose questions to the Prime Minister and to showcase their innovative and sustainable partnership with IKEA.
The Prime Minister said: “IKEA and Wincanton’s expansion in the UK and their incredible new distribution centre in Dartford represents a huge vote of confidence in our economy.
“I’m committed to harnessing innovation and technology to support this thriving industry – which is creating hundreds of interesting jobs, spreading opportunity and powering growth.”
The Prime Minister also toured the 452,000 sq ft customer distribution centre and sat down with Wincanton CEO James Wroath and IKEA UK Country Customer Manager Jakob Bertilsson to discuss the critical role of businesses, job creation, and sustainability initiatives in the UK economy.
James Wroath, CEO, Wincanton, said: “As one of the UK’s leading supply chain experts, we are proud of the role we play in driving our customers’ growth ambitions and keeping critical parts of the economy moving.
“In partnership with IKEA, this important new site in Dartford enables us to deliver exceptional service for its customers. At the heart of this is our joint commitment to lead innovation across the sector, to create 300 more jobs and a more sustainable supply chain wherever possible. Our multimillion-pound investment in electric vehicles for home delivery services is a perfect example of that.”
