Scottish spirits powerhouse expands

William Grant & Sons, the family-owned distillery behind Glenfiddich, Balvenie, Monkey Shoulder, and Hendrick’s Gin, has purchased The Famous Grouse blended whisky, Scotland’s best‑selling blended Scotch, from the Edrington-owned 1887 Company.

The deal, reportedly for an undisclosed sum, also includes the Naked Malt label, subject to regulatory approval.

William Grant & Sons, which is owned by billionaire Glenn Gordon, aims to enhance its portfolio, driving innovation and international expansion.

Edrington, who are refocusing on ultra-premium single malts such as The Macallan and Highland Park, sees this as a strategic exit from the blended whisky segment.

This deal marks a major move in the Scotch whisky market: a classic blend joins a diversified spirits stable, while Edrington zeroes in on high-end offerings.

The transaction enhances William Grant’s global reach and innovation potential.
